Connor Mill Trail Work Party Unity Pond Paddle Indigenous Foragers on the Sebasticook |
Sebasticook Regional Land Trust has its roots in the Friends of Unity Wetlands (FUW), a regional land trust that formed in 2004 to conserve the rich wild and working landscape of a nine-town complex in Central Maine. With the support of its members and community, the FUW achieved great success in its first five years, approaching 2,000 acres of permanently conserved farm, forest and wild lands, more than 300 participants in its children and family programs, and more than four miles of public access trails constructed and maintained. Recognizing that land use within the Sebasticook River watershed impacts the conservation values around which the FUW was organized, the organization in October 2009 expanded its service region and changed its name to the Sebasticook Regional Land Trust. In 2010, the new Sebasticook Regional Land Trust will launch with an ambitious land protection and outreach initiative in this more than 600-square-mile watershed. We are excited about increasing the pace of land conservation in Central Maine. Our local success is fueling our expansion, and that success is fueled by the generous support of our members, supporters and volunteers. We thank you for your long-standing support, ask for your patience as we update our Web site, and invite you to share your thoughts and ideas about our expansion. Our office will remain at 93 Main St. in Unity, 948-3766 or info@sebasticookrlt.org.
