About The Event

Join SRLT and Maine Woodland Owners for a tour and discussion about forestry practices that enhance wildlife habitat, the importance of standing dead trees, cavities, and coarse woody material, managing for pollinators, and addressing invasive forest plants.  The walk and talk through the 90-acre Cambridge Woodlands Preserve will be led by USFWS Biologist Hannah Mullally and MDIF&W Private Lands Wildlife Biologist Joe Roy. The preserve was donated to SRLT in 2013 by Jack Daggitt, and the last timber harvest occurred in 2015. Maine Woodland Owners works to promote stewardship of Maine's small woodland resources by providing information for better forest management and advocating for and reaching out to Maine's small woodland owners.

Directions from downtown Pittsfield to Leavitt Rd. in Cambridge: Travel north on Hartland Ave (Route 152) for approximately 17 miles through Hartland and St Albans.  Turn left at the T when you arrive at Route 23/Route 154 and then take the first right to remain on Route 152.  In approximately 2.5 miles, proceed straight on Goose Flat Rd when Route 152 bears left.  Drive approximately another two miles north and then turn left on Leavitt Rd.  Travel a half mile to the preserve entrance on the left.
