The State of Maine Rivers

Benton Grange Hall

It's been over 50 years since the Clean Water Act was passed in 1972, and we've seen the health of Maine's rivers improve. Dam removals and improved fish passageways have resulted in tremendous increases in sea-run fish populations and broad ecological benefits. But threats to Maine's rivers remain.

About The Event

Presentation by Landis Hudson, executive director of Maine Rivers. Since the Clean Water Act was passed in 1972, the health of Maine’s Rivers has improved dramatically. But there are still serious threats to our rivers – from the toxins that wash in with every rain storm, to the pollution discharged by paper mills, to water withdrawals by farmers and ski resorts.
