Learn how to use the free, downloadable Avenza Maps app to mark trails, navigate woodlands, follow and track boundaries - there are many ways to use this app to help with land stewardship or for recreational trail use!

About The Event

1 hour in-classroom with a presentation to gain a basic knowledge of the application and its uses for Land Stewardship activities (please bring an iPhone, iPad, or Android device to download the app). 2 hours - Travel to Richardson Preserve and field usage of the application, including 

  • Basic orienteering uses with navigating and utilizing digital map interface
  • Measure Feature uses
  • Drawing a Line feature or tracking
  • Trail marking utilizing GPS Feature
  • Delineating an area utilizing polygon feature
  • A portion of the harvest area
  • Placing and labeling placemarks and adding photographs
  • Marking invasive plant locations

Workshop led by Dan Hill, a biologist and licensed forester in the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Land Management Program. Please be at the Unity Library before 9 am as the workshop will start promptly at 9! Bring snacks, water, and footwear suitable for trail use and the weather.
