About The Event
Buck O’Herin, one of the founders of the Hills to Sea Trail and current Coordinator will speak about how the effort began, the challenges and accomplishments, and the remaining challenges going forward as the trail nears the 5-year mark since its completion. The 47-mile footpath, the second longest footpath in Maine stretches between Unity and Belfast. Its creation was a collaborative effort of dozens of volunteers from several nonprofits, who had the goal of making walking access to the natural world easier and closer to home for more people.
The trail traverses 7,000 acres of conserved land and the privately-owned lands of more than 60 participating landowners whose generosity makes the trail possible. In 2017 the Hills to Sea Trail Coalition received the “Trail Partnership Award” from American Trails at the 23rd International Trails Symposium in Dayton, Ohio. You will also hear about current projects being developed to enhance the trail experience. Plenty of time will be made for Q&A.
