About The Event

Join SRLT and Maine Master Naturalist Mary Ellen Dennis for a woodland walk and an exploration of vernal pools at Freedom Forest Preserve. These ephemeral wetlands support the major lifecycle stages of four main indicator species: wood frogs, spotted salamanders, blue spotted salamanders, and fairy shrimp. The preserve, generously donated by Jane Fasullo in 2013, also hosts a representative forest songbird community and local mammals. All are welcome but please leave the pets at home. To more fully enjoy the walk please be dressed for the weather and wear sturdy hiking shoes. We will meet at the trailhead on North Palermo Rd one mile past the intersection with Greeley and Albion roads.
