About The Event
This SRLT paddle led by Bill Cunningham will be an out and back flat water paddle of about 6 miles along a quiet stretch of the Sebasticook River from the Burnham Dam Boat Launch to the Eelweir Bridge on the Mount Road. Just upriver from the dam, the river widens out to almost a long pond with one side surrounded by wetlands and the other side bordered by farm fields and woods. There are only a few houses visible from the water. Eagles, ducks, geese, king fishers and ospreys are usually spotted this time of year. Many wildflowers will be in bloom. The automated fish lift is fun to watch at the dam as it helps alewives and other fish on their swim upriver. Picnic lunches can be eaten at the dam after the trip. There are no restrooms. Boats will be launched by 10AM. Raindate: Sunday, July 20
